Waiting on Wednesday – Ancillary Sword

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to let us share our excitement for books coming out soon.

The first one was quite interesting, I really enjoyed the alienness of the world and ancillaries. There was much talk about the gender blindness, but it was the hive mind mentality and Breq’s disconnection with it that I found most interesting. Quite looking forward to book to as we see Breq’s continued adjustment, especially now that she will have a ship!

Ancillary Sword (Imperial Radch #2) by Ann Leckie
Expected Publication: October 7th 2014 by Orbit
What if you once had thousands of bodies and near god-like technology at your disposal?

And what if all of it were ripped away? The Lord of the Radch has given Breq command of the ship Mercy of Kalr and sent her to the only place she would have agreed to go — to Athoek Station, where Lieutenant Awn’s sister works in Horticulture.Athoek was annexed some six hundred years ago, and by now everyone is fully civilized — or should be. But everything is not as tranquil as it appears. Old divisions are still troublesome, Athoek Station’s AI is unhappy with the situation, and it looks like the alien Presger might have taken an interest in what’s going on. With no guarantees that interest is benevolent.

  1. I probably didn’t like Ancillary Justice as much as it deserved, as some of the sci-fi stuff proved to be a little too heavy for me. But while Ancillary Sword probably wouldn’t make it into my top anticipated list, I’m still looking forward to checking it out. Anyway, I got this as an eARC last week. Towards the end of the first book I felt like I was getting a hang of it, so hopefully the sequel will be easier for me to get into.
