Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!

Physical Books

Welcome letter 1-3First up, I am quite happy to have been selected as one of the first Ace Roc Stars! This is a new “virtual street team” program that the good people at Ace & Roc Books have started. What does it mean? It means I get boxes of books!! This makes me so incredibly happy! And I this week I received my first box!

The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher – This is just a teaser sample, but I am quite curious about it. I have not read the Dresden books, but they have so many fans, I think I need to check this out. And it’s less daunting to start with a book one in a new series than an established series that has a significant number of books already.

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine – I’ve not read anything by Rachel Caine, and this the first in a new series. And its magic set in a library, so what’s not to like? I plan on reading this one sometime before its release in July.

Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs – I’ve seen a number of good reviews for this one. But, I think I need to start with book one for this series, so will have to put it on hold until I catch up!

Leviathan (The Lost Fleet Beyond the Frontier #5) by Jack Campbell – Sounds like it could be good, but my guess is I should start with book #1 and work my way to this  one.

Day Shift by Charlaine Harris – This is a second in a series, but it can be read as a standalone. This is another one that I plan to try. Texas vampires 🙂 Sounds like a fun change of pace.

There was also a sampler in here so I have the chance to check out a bit of a number of other authors as well!

So many thanks to Ace Roc for the set of books and selecting me to be a part of the Ace Roc Stars street team!

When We Were Animals by Joshua Gaylord (unsolicited ARC) – I was so incredibly happy to see this show up on my door step. I have been eyeing it and wanting to read it, but had just really overbooked my April and had managed some level of self control. But now that it’s here, I am definitely reading as soon as finish my current read. I am definitely in the mood for a good horror book! Many thanks to Mulholland Books for sending this my way!

Shutter by Courney Alameda  (Won from Not Yet Read) – I’ve seen a number of great reviews for this and THE COVER!! I have to read it just for that! 🙂 Was very excited to win a copy because I likely would not have bought the hardcover, and it is so cool!

Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett – I got this audiobook for the Fantasy Faction book club read. It will be my first Discworld book!

Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen – I already have the physical book, but saw the ebook cheap and went ahead and grabbed it. Sometimes it’s easier to read an ebook 🙂

  1. Grats on becoming an Ace Roc Star! I’m excited to see what you’ll get in your box of goodies each month. I’m really excited for that Jim Butcher book, though if I’d gotten that sampler it probably would have gone immediately in a lock box or drawer – as a rule I don’t do excerpts/teasers/sneak peaks, but that one would have been very hard to resist 😛

  2. I was really interested in the Ace Roc Stars thing, though I couldn’t sign up for it since I’m in Canada. There needs to be more Canadian initiative for books; a surprising amount of publicity is US or UK only, leaving Canada right out. :/ Still, I’ll enjoy looking at all the things you get in boxes, so that’ll satisfy me. :p

  3. Congrats on being an Ace Roc Star! The whole initiative seems like a great idea, and hopefully you have a lot of fun with it. 🙂 I flailed a bit when I saw that Aeronaut’s Windlass cover, but teasers always drive me mad. I need to know what happens next -without waiting, haha. Good timing on the Stolen Songbird grab – I believe the sequel is up on NetGalley right now!
