Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!
It’s been another couple of great weeks for book additions!
Received for Review
The Mechanical by Ian Tegillis – This is one of those books I wish I had picked up after reading reviews. Honestly, I was initially intrigued, but still a bit unsure. After reading reviews, though, definitely want to read it! My thanks to Hachette Audio for the review copy!
Lock In by John Scalzi – I’ve been wanting to read another book by Scalzi, and am really looking forward to checking this one out. I’ve heard great things about the narration. Many thanks to Audible Studios for the review copy.
The Fifth House of the Heart by Ben Tripp – This is one of those books I stumbled upon and immediately went WANT!! It’s a dark vampire book, not a sparkly one, just the way it should be. Thanks to Gallery Books for this one!
Updraft by Fran Wilde – This book just sounds different and quite cool, I’m really looking forward to it. Thanks to Tor!
Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes – This was a surprise arrival from Mulholland. Broken Monster is now available in paperback! And I am flattered they sent me a copy! Since I only had it on ebook before, and this was one of my favorite reads from last year, it’s great to have a physical copy! (you can see my review here if you want to hear me gush why I love it so much).
Giveaway Win
I was quite excited to win a Pyr giveaway for ANY two books of my choice! So, what do people think, did I choose well??
Hexed by Michael Alan Nelson – I’ve seen a number of rave reviews for this recently and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to snag a copy for myself!
Thief’s Covenant by Ari Marmell – I debated since this is a first in a series, but when the last book came out, I remember seeing so many reviews that really made me wish I had read this series. So, nows my chance 🙂
Many thanks to Pyr for this giveaway!!
Some great stuff here!
Thanks! I’m looking forward to digging in and reading them! 🙂

Awesome haul! First of all, great choice with Hexed. I loved that book! And I really enjoyed Lock In. Cool that the paperback of Broken Monsters is out, and I bought a copy of The Mechanical but haven’t read it yet. Very curious to hear your thoughts.

I’ve seen some very different reviews for The Fifth House of the Heart, but I’m still looking forward to it.

Yeah, I saw one the other day that I wasn’t glowing, but wasn’t bad either. So, will have to read and see 🙂

Lovely haul of books.
I bought Lock in ages ago but still haven’t read it! I need to make the time – it will be my first Scalzi book.
Updraft and The Fifth House books I’m really looking forward to picking up.
Nice Broken Monsters cover – not seen that one before.
I loved Hexed – will look forward to seeing what you make of that.

Yes, you and Tammy, and Mogsy and I think Tabitha all played a part in me picking Hexed. Jumping on the bandwagon! 🙂

The paperback of Broken Monsters is so pretty! I actually like it better than the original.
Looking forward to your review of Fifth House – I’m so wary of vampire books now, but I think between you, Bob and Tammy, you guys will give me enough info in your reviews that I’ll have a good idea of whether I’ll want to pick it up in the future 🙂

I definitely do that with some books, wait to see what others think. 🙂 I will gladly let you know if I think Fifth House is worth reading when I’m done 🙂

YES Lock In! That was one of my favourite books last year. You got an audio copy, right? Which narrator did you go with? I love that they offered a male and female narrator (which I will rave about more after you’ve read/listened to the book!). And great choices with the Pyr books, both are titles that I really want to get to at some point…especially Hexed. Can’t resist the siren song of UF! 😉

I went with the Wil Wheaton version because I heard some positive reviews specifically for that one. And it was an hour shorter, which is kind of funny 🙂

I read Lock In last year, and thought it was really good, but I’m interested in how it is narrated. Updraft does look so cool too.

Lock In is such a good novel! I loved it, and I hope you like it even half as much as I did!

A lot of awesome new books for you. I recently finished reading ‘The Fifth House of the Heart’ and although it was not as dark or scary as I expected it had a charming anti-hero as main character. Definitely no sparkling vampires. 🙂
Happy reading and have a nice weekend!

I wouldn’t mind a copy of Broken Monsters. *Waits because this tactic actually worked once*
