Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to let us share our excitement for books coming out soon.
This is definitely a change from my normal selections, but I had to include it. I loved Patrick Ness’s A Monster Calls and have been meaning to read more by him. This looks like a great chance. I don’t read a lot of YA, but I have to admit, that when I do, I like to see things like this that show the power and benefit of kids being themselves.
Title: The Rest of Us Just Live Here
Author: Patrick Ness
Expected publication: October 6, 2015
Publisher: Harper Teen
What if you aren’t the Chosen One?
The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?
What if you’re like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.
Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.
Even if your best friend is worshiped by mountain lions.
Award-winning writer Patrick Ness’s bold and irreverent novel powerfully reminds us that there are many different types of remarkable.
I’m not a huge Patrick Ness fan but have to admit that this looks pretty good. May have to give it a read and give Patrick Ness another try.

I have a digital review copy of this, so I am very excited to read it as well. Plus I love the cover, and I’m always on the look out for a new take on superheroes.

It just sounds fun 🙂 But not in a shallow kind of way

Even if they were The Chosen One, I’d still bet there are a couple teenagers who would feel prom is more important than the end of the world XD But seriously, this sounds good. I like the message that the story is going to tell.

Oh, this is a superhero novel? Probably not my kind of book, but this does sound like a fresh look at the genre and the cover is very eye-catching!

I LOVE Patrick Ness. He’s not for everyone – he’s got a tendency towards experimental writing styles – but I’ve never met a book of his I didn’t like. I got a digital ARC of this on Edelweiss a while back – you should see if it’s still available to request over there! 🙂

It’s not 🙂 But that’s OK, I have plenty lined up. I also may watch for it in audiobook.
