Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!
This is the mega-haul, super sized edition! (at least for me). It’s been about a month since I last posted, and I definitely have some books to show for it!!

So, this was evidently my FIRE package from Ace/Roc/DAW/NAL! 🙂
The Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan – I am incredibly curious to see what Anthony Ryan has in store for us with this new series! Many thanks to Ace for sending me a finished copy for review.
Paper and Fire by Rachel Caine – I was really excited to get my hands on this book as Ink and Bone was a surprise hit for me last year. I’m most of the way done, so should have a review in the next couple of weeks!
Twelve Kings in Sharakhai by Bradley P. Beaulieu – This is one of the books that I skipped over last year and truthfully really regretted missing it. So many of the reviewers that read it didn’t just enjoy it but absolutely loved it. So when I had the chance to get a review copy of the new paperback edition, I was definitely excited. Many thanks to DAW for the opportunity to catch up with this!
I also got a couple of books from Pyr!
Gods of Nabban by K. V. Johansen – This one definitely looks intriguing, and I planned to put it in my pile to read, but then I noticed it is a book 3. I am guessing I would have to catch up with books 1 and 2 before tackling this one. Has anyone read the first books in this series? If so, what do you think?
Spear of Light by Brenda Cooper – I really should start this series, I heard really positive things about the first one. Thanks to Pyr for sending me this finished copy.
The Language of Dying by Sarah Pinborough – I have heard this book is quite emotional, and I am not sure if it has much (or any) speculative aspect to it. But I have also heard it is amazing, so when I saw it on NetGalley I just instal-clicked that Request button. Thanks to Jo Fletcher Books for approving my request.
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff – Here’s another instal-click request! I’ve been wanting to read something by Kristof and figure this is the perfect opportunity with the start of a new series. Many thanks to Thomas Dunne Books for granting me the eARC!
Blood of the Earth by Faith Hunter – I have a lot of wholes in my Urban Fantasy reading. Faith Hunter has been a big one. I found out this is supposed to be a good entry point and does not require reading her Jane Yellowrock books, so I was very happy to be offered a copy for review from Roc! Many thanks!
The Obelisk Gate by N. K. Jemisin – Well, yeah. After The Fifth Season, this next one is an absolute must read, so I was absolutely thrilled to get a review copy!! Many thanks to Orbit.
Bite by K. S. Merbeth – This is one of the Horror books I’ve had on my radar for 2016. It sounds like it involves being on the road. That seems to be a thing this year with Suicide Motor Club and Brotherhood of the Wheel. Though they all also sound a bit different, and the young woman protagonist in this definitely has me really interested. Once again, thanks to Orbit for the review copy!
The Copper Promise by Jen Williams – This is one of those books that had a UK release a while before it is eventually releasing in the US. I am thrilled to see it finally getting a release here as I’ve read so many great reviews! Many thanks to Angry Robot for sending me a copy for review!
And as usual, Tor.com was quite generous! I received eARCs for each of these books. I have to admit, Cold-Forged Flame by Marie Brennan is probably the one I am most looking forward to!
Audiobooks for Review
Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt – This was a definitely a creepy horror book. You can read my review of it to get more details. Many thanks to Macmillan Audio for the review copy!
Infomocracy by Malka Older – Science Fiction, technology and Politics together? YES, PLEASE! I am really looking forward to listening to this. Thanks again to Macmillan Audio for the review copy.
The Girl with Ghost Eyes by M. H. Boroson – This was one I wished I had found the time to read last year because I read some fantastic reviews of it. I did really enjoy (check out my review). Many thanks to Audible Studios for the review copy.
The Falconer by Elizabeth May – Sometimes, I just want a book where the girl breaks the rules and kicks some ass. With a protagonist who is supposed to be a “proper young lady” at court, but actually spends her time hunting and killing fae, this was a perfect match! And the audiobook was fantastic. My review will be up this Friday for Backlist Burndown! Thanks again to Audible Studios!

I haven’t read Anthony Ryan yet, so The Waking Fire will be my first taste. Looking forward to it. Like you, I’m new to The Copper Promise too, even though I hear the 3rd book just came out in the UK. Some catching up to do there.

I’m so excited to read Nevernight! I heard that a book blogger actually designed the title font, which is super cool. I’ve heard some mixed things about The Falconer, but I have a copy and I’d like to get around to read it so I’m glad it was such a hit for you. Hopefully I’ll like it, too! 😀

What a great haul. I’m excited to read Paper and Fire too and also got a eARC of Nevernight. It will be my first Kristoff book but I just picked up Illuminae from the library Friday. I’m also looking forward to Bite and can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

I have The Gods of Nabban too and really like the sound of it – but like you hadn’t realised it was No.3 – eek! I definitely need to check that out, kind of hoping that it can be read as a standalone!
