Stacking the Shelves – July 16, 2016

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!

It’s been another couple of great weeks for book additions! I’ve been slowly trying to get back in the swing of things after being off the grid for a while. These books are going to help motivate me to ramp up my reading a bit as well (or at least I hope so!)

Received for Review

Pyr was very generous again this time around. I received a finished copy of It Happened One Dooms Day by Laurence McNaughton as well as an ARC of Congress of Secrets by Stephanie Burgis. Since I loved Masks and Shadows, I am really looking forward to diving into this one! I’m also excited to get my hands on a copy so early as the book doesn’t release until November. Thanks to Pyr books for sending me these books!

And then I have to admit, it amuses me that I received two books with the title Red Right Hand in the last couple of weeks.

The first Red Right Hand is by Chris Holm and I believe it is a follow up to The Killing Kind. I still need to make time to read that one before I give this book a try but since the idea of a hitman that hunts other hitmen sounds pretty cool, I am looking forward to it. The other was a finished copy of Red Right Hand by Levi Black. This is an interesting mix of horror and urban fantasy (I had to dive into it right away). Many thanks to Tor Books for the review copy!

Tor.com sent a couple more eARCs my way: The Beast by Andy Remic and The Lost Child of Lychford by Paul Cornell. And I have to say, I just love Tor.com’s covers. I also still need to read the first novella for each of these, but they sounds as good as they look. Many thanks to Tor.com Publishing!

And as large as my TBR list already is, this next one (The Infinity of You & Me by J. Q. Coyle) was a complete knee-jerk, click the request button when I read the description of it for the first time on NetGalley. An impulse request for a book I’ve not heard of before, which I try not to do too much. But hey, it’s fun sometimes, and this book sounds like it could be very good! Giveaway Wins

Version Control by Dexter Palmer is one of those books that caught my eye after my review load was very full. I’m often intrigued about how today’s technology and near future technology can be spun into science fiction and this one fits the bill.  For books like this, that I notice after I have so many books lined up already, I love to enter giveaways as I may not feel quite comfortable committing to a review, but I don’t want to forget about the book either. I was really excited to win a copy thanks to Fantasy Literature.

Purchases

Just a few fun things I bought in the last couple of weeks. The first is a mug my husband found for me while we were on vacation. 🙂 And I also decided to try out an adult coloring book. While I was ordering one for myself (Fairies in Wonderland), I also had each of my boys pick one out (Dr. Who and Tropical World). And I finally ordered a new graphic novel to try. Went with Rat Queens because I’ve heard so many good things about it (especially from Danya at Fine Print Blog).
