Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to let us share our excitement for books coming out soon.
I’ve been meaning to read one of Valente’s books for a while, and though this may not be a novel, it does peak my curiosity. I don’t even read superhero comics, but I think this sounds like it could be fun (plus, I’ve been watching a number of the superhero tv adaptations, so it may not be all foreign).

The lives of six female superheroes and the girlfriends of superheroes. A ferocious riff on women in superhero comics
From the New York Times bestselling author Catherynne Valente comes a series of linked stories from the points of view of the wives and girlfriends of superheroes, female heroes, and anyone who’s ever been “refrigerated”: comic book women who are killed, raped, brainwashed, driven mad, disabled, or had their powers taken so that a male superhero’s storyline will progress.
In an entirely new and original superhero universe, Valente subversively explores these ideas and themes in the superhero genre, treating them with the same love, gravity, and humor as her fairy tales. After all, superheroes are our new fairy tales and these six women have their own stories to share.
Ha, this sounds kind of like Redshirts, only the feminist version 🙂 I should check this one out, especially because I like Valente’s writing in general.

What a unique book. I know she is a well-loved author so I’m sure this will be quite popular. Nice choice.

I have read a good deal of Valente, I wonder how she will translate over to graphic form. The premise makes this worth picking up no mater what though.

I don’t read a lot of comics anymore, but this might be worth checking out – I like the concept.

I’m still confused as to whether this is a graphic novel or not. It doesn’t actually say that it is??? In any case, I’m very excited for this, I love Valente!

The cover says Illustrated by Annie Wu, and I think I’ve mainly seen it listed as a graphic novel.

I also thought it was a graphic novel, but in an email from Wunderkind I found out it is apparently a collection of short stories. Maybe there are scattered illustrations in it? Either way, I was sold 🙂

Never read anything by Valente before, but I love the idea of this (and the title!!).
I didn’t know about this one but I liked the books I tried by her

I loved the sound of this one – I don’t mind either way, graphic or not – it has a great premise.
