Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!
It’s been another couple of great weeks for book additions!
Received for Review
The Tunnel by Carl-Johan Vallgren – This was as surprise arrival that I had not heard of before. It walks the line for what I typically read because it may be straight up thriller without much speculative aspect, that said, it does sounds like it could be really, really good. The publicist told me that this can be read without reading the first (this is the second in a series). I am hoping to find the time to read this one, as it does sound like something I would really enjoy. Many thanks to Quercus!
The Librarians and the Mother Goose Chase by Greg Cox – This was another surprise arrival. I did read the first one and enjoyed, but didn’t love it. It is a bit too “over the top” for me a good amount of the time, but I will keep it in mind if I am in the mood for something different, fast and fun. Many thanks to Tor Books!
The Guns Above by Robyn Bennis – This book was a pleasant surprise from Tor. I have been trying to refrain from requesting as many books, but this is one that sounds like it could be a great read: strong female protagonist, politics, airships, etc. I am really hoping to fit this one in. Thanks Tor!
The Refrigerator Monologues by Catherynne M. Valente – I requested this as something different. It is a series of stories featuring woman from comic books, and sounds like it twists tropes on their head (and maybe puts some in their place). Really looking forward to reading this one. Thanks to Wunderkind and Saga Press for the review copy!
Mightier than the Sword by K. J. Parker – OK, it’s Parker. I want it. Plus the synopsis mentions uppity royals, monasteries and pirates. Who wouldn’t want to read a book with all that? Many thanks to Subterranean Press!
The Boy on the Bridge by M. R. Carey – Another author that is an auto-request for me. I am really looking forward to reading what Carey has in store for us with this one. Many thanks to Orbit!
Glamour in Glass by Mary Robinette Kowal – I was in the mood for something a bit different and picked up Shades of Milk and Honey. Really enjoyed it and was thrilled to get a review copy for the next in series, Glamour in Glass. Many thanks to Audible Studios!
Giveaway Wins
So, I had a complete surprise when I got a mystery book package in the mail, with a signed copy of Miranda and Caliban by Jacqueline Carey in it. I am sure this was a giveaway win, but I never received a notice that I won, so was doubly surprised when it showed up. Yay!
The Labyrinth of Flame by Courtney Schafer – As a reward for completing the Reddit Fantasy 2016 Bingo (that just ended in April), Courtney Schafer gave all the finishers a gift of one of her books! I read and enjoyed the first one, enjoyed it, and have the second one that I still need to read, so was happy to get the third so when I catch up, I will have it on hand. Many thanks to the author for her generosity! Just completing Bingo is fun, but having authors get involved and show their support and share books, makes it even better! Thanks!
Purchases
All the Things You Have to Burn by Kit Abbey – I heard about this one over on Reddit Fantasy, and decided to pick up a copy. I do love me some sarcasm. Plus, look at that cover!! It’s absolutely gorgeous.
Since I’m right now in the middle of The Boy on the Bridge, I can tell you this is an amazing read worth of its predecessor, if not more. Happy reading! 🙂

My copy of The Refrigerator Monologues just arrived yesterday, and I’m very curious about it. It looks so fun! And it’ll be my first Catherynne M. Valente 🙂

Courtney Schafer’s series is one of my favorites. That is a nice grab. I am starting The Guns Above today. Is that KJ Parker a full book or another novella?

It’s another novella. 🙂 Curious to hear your thoughts on The Guns Above!
