Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!

I have quite the haul! I need to start doing these posts more frequently 🙂 I was so excited to come back from my trip and find a good portion of these books waiting for me!! So many thanks to all the generous publishers.

Received for Review

Orbit has been so good to me these past few weeks. First, I received a finished copy of You Die When You Die by Angus Watson. I loved his Iron Age series and am really looking forward to reading this start to a new series. Then I had a couple of very exciting surprises! The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso is a debut I am really looking forward to. Was thrilled to get an ARC of this one. My other surprise from Orbit was an ARC of Provenance by Ann Leckie. Her trilogy was impressive and so Provenance is a highly anticipated book for me! So happy to get an advanced copy of it. Many thanks again to Orbit!

I also received a couple of fun surprises from Tor! Twelve Days By Steven Barnes sounds like a great paranormal thriller and Perilous Prophecy by Leanna Renee Hieber may not have been on my radar, but a Victorian-era romance with some magic thrown in? I’ve found I quite enjoy this, so am really looking forward to reading this one. It is evidently a prequel that can be read without having read the other books in the series. Thanks to Tor!

The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss was a surprise arrival from Saga and Wunderkind PR. The premise sounds good, many thanks for sending this one my way!

I was happy to recieve a nice finished hardcover of Halls of Law by V. M. Escalada! Looking forward to checking out this new epic fantasy. Thanks to DAW for sending this my way!

Also from DAW, is an ARC of The Imposters of Aventil by Marshall Ryan Maresca. I find Maresca’s books to really fun reads, and this is the third book in the Maradaine series, which is one of my favorites (magic school and all!). It looks like this book may start to connect with the Constubulary series, which should also make it more exciting. Many thanks, again, to DAW!

A finished copy of A Kiss Before Dooms Day by Laurence MacNaughton also showed up. One of these days I will start this series because it does sound fun. Many thanks to PYR!

Artemis by Andy Weir – This is a no brainer. I absolutely loved the geeky yet hilarious book Weir crafted in The Martian. This is a must read, and so many thanks to Crown for the review copy!

Magicians Impossible by Brad Abraham – I requested this one on a bit of a whim because I was in the mood for something fun and exciting and this sounded like it would fit the bill. Many thanks to Thomas Dunne Books!

  1. Nice haul! Very excited to read The Tethered Mage and I’m a bit sad that I passed on You Die When You Die.

  2. This is a wonderful haul of books – I think I ought to also take part in this as I seem to be getting a steady stream of books to add to my TBR:). I’ve also recently got Artemis, which I’m very excited about and I really like the sound of Magicians Impossible

  3. Both “Provenance” and “Artemis” are very high on my “wanted” list, strangely enough because of my non-positive experience (I don’t want to call it *negative* at the moment) with their previous work: I’m wondering if a different approach, a different narrative angle will make me change my mind. And I sincerely hope so…. 🙂
