Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!
I really need to start posting these more frequently! 🙂 I have some great books this time, it’s hard to choose what to read next!
Received for Review
Imposters of Aventil by Marshall Ryan Maresca
This is the third book in the trilogy, so I was really looking forward to it. I already read and enjoyed, you can check out my review. Now I’m looking forward to see what Maresca does next! My thanks to DAW books!
Stone in the Skull by Elizabeth Bear
I really enjoyed Karen Memory and am looking forward to see how Bear does epic fantasy. Many thanks to Tor Books!
The Genius Plague by David Walton
I love the sound of this one, sort of a creepy science fiction. Many thanks to Pyr!
This is an illustrated edition and is gorgeous! I added a few more pictures here, but there are also pages that are framed with an illustration, just lots of different cool artwork all through out the book. Many thanks to William Morrow!!
I’m not usually a squee-er, but a new book by Joe Hill?? SQUEE!! I’m really excited for this one, I love Joe Hill’s writing. So many thanks to William Morrow
Children of Refuge by Margaret Peterson Haddix
This is the second in a series, and I’ve not read the first.Hopefully I can catch up! Many thanks to Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers for the finished copy!
Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard
Roses and Rot was a great read, so another book by Kat Howard already has my attention. And I actually love the idea of a protagonist who is not jumping on the bandwagon to help save magic
The Bloodprint by Ausma Zehanat Khan
This is a new epic fantasy with two strong female leads. Really excited to read it! Thanks to Harper Voyager!
I loved the Thessaly trilogy by Walton and am looking forward to reading more of her work. My thanks to Tachyon Publishing!
I wish now I’d requested The Stone in the Skull, it sounds so good. The Feed looks really good too!

I’m looking forward to both of those. And no matter what I do request, there are ALWAYS more books I wish I had.

I received a copy of the illustrated edition of Neverwhere as well and I haven’t even gotten a chance to really look through it closely, but from what I’ve seen of the artwork I’m really impressed. This is a book I’ve been meaning to read for a long time!

It is definitely a very cool edition! I read Neverwhere before I started reviewing, so I was really curious to see the art (its a pretty visual book).

The reviews I’ve read about The Genius Plague point to a very intriguing book, indeed.
And I’ve read the synopsis for The Feed, so I can understand perfectly your interest in it: looking forward to your review! 🙂

Yes, both of those sound like really fun SF reads!

It really is! 🙂

The Neverwhere illustrations are beautiful! I read that book a year or two ago, so I bet the illustrated version must be a real treat, especially with the underground scenes.
I got a bunch of books for my birthday recently (some were gifts, others were ones I bought with a birthday gift certificate). I doubt I’ll be able to remember them all, but some of them were Blackbird House by Alice Hoffman, The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, Beren & Luthien by J.R.R. Tolkien, and the second and third books of Rae Carson’s Fire & Thorns trilogy. And then a friend of mine who works at Tor was able to send me copies of the second and third books of Brian Staveley’s Unhewn Throne series, as well as an ARC of K. Arsenault Rivera’s The Tiger’s Daughter.

I love Staveley’s books. And I highly recommend Skullsworn if you enjoy the trilogy.

The Stone in the Skull looks wonderful – as does The Genius Plague. It looks as if you are nicely set up with some excellent October reads, Lisa:). In the meantime have a great week:)
