Waiting on Wednesday is a meme that was originated at Breaking the Spine, now hosted at Wishful Endings. It’s a weekly feature that lets us share our excitement for books coming out soon.
It’s so hard to keep up with all the books, so sometimes there are new books and series that I regret not prioritizing. R. J. Barker’s first trilogy is one of those regrets for me. So this new series sounds like a great opportunity to finally read Barker. Plus, dragons and criminals!
The Bone Ships (The Tide Child, #1) by R.J. BarkerPublished by Orbit on September 24, 2019
Pages: 432
A crew of condemned criminals embark on a suicide mission to hunt the first sea dragon seen in centuries in the first book of this adventure fantasy trilogy.
Violent raids plague the divided isles of the Scattered Archipelago. Fleets constantly battle for dominance and glory, and no commander stands higher among them than “Lucky” Meas Gilbryn.
But betrayed and condemned to command a ship of criminals, Meas is forced on suicide mission to hunt the first living sea-dragon in generations. Everyone wants it, but Meas Gilbryn has her own ideas about the great beast. In the Scattered Archipelago, a dragon’s life, like all lives, is bound in blood, death and treachery
Super excited for this too! But I hope the dragon is ok?

It’s a new one to me there!
Oh this pretty wild! I love the sea dragon idea- and it’s a trilogy too! Interesting…
Yes, I can’t wait for this either! And you should still definitely check out his first trilogy, it is right up your alley 🙂
I need to read the last book in the first trilogy – but, oh yes, I am super excited for this and the cover is so lovely. I want it.
Lynn 😀
Barker sits firmly in my “buy sight unseen” list and I can’t wait to read this one!
