Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to let us share our excitement for books coming out soon.
I hadn’t heard of this one until a copy showed up in the mail, but I have to say it sounds like it could be a really fun read. I like the concept of a sister and brother working to create better lives for themselves and getting twisted up in the political machinations of an anti-monarchist movement, and having conflicting loyalties and having to choose? Sounds like it has the potential for serious drama and possible heartbreak! Really looking forward to it.

TORN is the first book in an enchanting debut fantasy series featuring a seamstress who stitches magic into clothing, and the mounting political uprising that forces her to choose between her family and her ambitions, for fans of The Queen of the Tearling.
Sophie is a dressmaker who has managed to open her own shop and lift herself and her brother, Kristos, out of poverty. Her reputation for beautiful ball gowns and discreetly-embroidered charms for luck, love, and protection secures her a commission from the royal family itself — and the commission earns her the attentions of a dashing but entirely unattainable duke.
Meanwhile, Kristos rises to prominence in the growing anti-monarchist movement. Their worlds collide when the revolution’s shadow leader takes him hostage and demands that Sophie place a curse on the queen’s Midwinter costume — or Kristos will die at their hand.
As the proletariat uprising comes to a violent climax, Sophie is torn: between her brother and the community of her birth, and her lover and the life she’s striven to build.
I’m really excited for this as well. I love the idea of using magic and sewing, so unusual?
I know! It sounds different and potentially fun as well
What a marvellous premise – I do hope the writing and storytelling lives up to it:). Thank you for sharing this one, Lisa.
Thanks! I’m hoping it works well!
This is my first hearing of this as well, but I am liking it! Maybe it’s because I’m K.J. Parker, but I’m in the mood for another political intrigue story.
Yes, this sounds like the total opposite of a Parker book! 🙂
I’m quite curious about this one, hoping it’s as good as it sounds! 🙂
Me too! 🙂
Queen of the Tearling didn’t work for me but I’m curious about this one and look forward to seeing how you get on with it.
Lynn 😀
I didn’t read that one, hoping this one works for me!
