I wasn’t writing reviews yet when I read Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb, so unfortunately, I have nothing easy to point you to let you know how highly I rate her books. But this is one of the first series I will recommend to people. Robin Hobb does an amazing job with characters and creating a real emotional attachment between the reader and the events in the book. If you haven’t read this yet, the ebook versions (both the Nook and the Kindle) are only 99 cents right now. Seriously, go pick up a copy .
Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman. He is treated like an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him sectetly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz’s blood runs the magic Skill–and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family. As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.

I already have these, but great deal! I’m actually quite happy to see her books regularly on sale, it’s how I nabbed the whole Rain Wilds Chronicles as well as the first book of Liveship Traders which I saw a deal on recently (and I totally wanted to read that so badly after reading RWC). Yep, I actually bought all the Rainwild Chronicles that way. Still have to read them though, not sure why. Think I am likely to read them back to back and never feel like committing that much time. One of these days! 🙂

Best 99 cents you could spend 🙂 I’m guessing that if you don’t have this that you’ve not read any Hobb yet. They really are great books, but really also low risk to get the first one this cheap. (And I don’t even get any commission, just sharing my love for the series 🙂 )
I couldn’t agree more! I won’t say that Fitz was my first book boyfriend (that honour goes to Aragorn), but he’s still the one I love the most. I went through complete emotional heartache throughout these books, and I still can’t point to many that are even on a par with both Fitz series. Oh, I absolutely *love* the Farseer Trilogy! The Fool is my favourite character. I don’t actually own any of the books for some reason – I still haven’t decided whether I want to buy the physical copies or the ebooks. I don’t really have space on my bookshelf, but since I love them so much, the physical copies would look great next to my copies of the Tawny Man trilogy!
