Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to let us share our excitement for books coming out soon.
I have to send some thanks to Tammy at Books, Bones and Buffy for bringing this one to my attention in her WoW post a few weeks ago. Now, I am really looking forward to seeing if this book is as good as it sounds! I mean, it’s got love, heartbreak and regenerating body parts!!
The Heart Does Not Grow Back by Fred Venturini
Expected Publication: November 4th, 2014 by Macmillan-Picador
EVERY SUPERHERO NEEDS TO START SOMEWHERE…
Dale Sampson is used to being a nonperson at his small-town Midwestern high school, picking up the scraps of his charismatic lothario of a best friend, Mack. He comforts himself with the certainty that his stellar academic record and brains will bring him the adulation that has evaded him in high school. But when an unthinkable catastrophe tears away the one girl he ever had a chance with, his life takes a bizarre turn as he discovers an inexplicable power: He can regenerate his organs and limbs.
When a chance encounter brings him face to face with a girl from his past, he decides that he must use his gift to save her from a violent husband and dismal future. His quest takes him to the glitz and greed of Hollywood, and into the crosshairs of shadowy forces bent on using and abusing his gift. Can Dale use his power to redeem himself and those he loves, or will the one thing that finally makes him special be his demise? The Heart Does Not Grow Back is a darkly comic, starkly original take on the superhero tale, introducing an exceptional new literary voice in Fred Venturini.
Sounds interesting, although that cover doesn’t quite seem to match.
Here’s what I’m Waiting on this Wednesday.

True, it looks a bit more like an encyclopedic type book. But, I guess its easy to remember the regeneration, and also, it is rather eye catching. 🙂

Now that I’ve forced this book down everyone’s throat, I sure hope it turns out to be good, LOL!! Awesome pick, Lisa:-)

Ha! I won’t hold it against you if I read a book that sounds incredibly interesting and it just doesn’t pan out to be what I expected. But I will thank you again if I love it. 🙂

Tammy’s caught another one 😀
Love, heartbreak and regenerating body part sounds awesome, but what really hooked me too was a bunch of readers on Goodreads tagging it as “horror”. That seems promising!

True. I obviously love me some horror books as well. 🙂

Something about that cover calls to me. Is it SF or Horror, Lisa? People online seem to be confused. If it’s horror I may give it a try, since I’ve vowed to try some horror before the year is out!

I *think* it’s horror? I’ve seen it tagged that way more often. I will have a better idea after I read it 🙂 Perhaps its like The Girl with All the Gifts which is strongly horror AND sci-fi, but I don’t get that vibe from the description.
