Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to let us share our excitement for books coming out soon.
I’m not sure there is anything in this description that does not appeal to me! dark fantasy? CHECK! Girl dressing as boy? CHECK! Attacker turns to sand when stabbed in the heart?? CHECK!! A new sight that is a blessing and a curse?? Check! I just seriously want to get my hands on a copy of this so I can read it ASAP! Oh, and it has a blurb from Chuck Wendig!
Author: Lila Bowen
Expected publication: October 27th, 2015
Publisher: Orbit
A rich, dark fantasy of destiny, death, and the supernatural world hiding beneath the surface.
Nettie Lonesome lives in a land of hard people and hard ground dusted with sand. She’s a half-breed who dresses like a boy, raised by folks who don’t call her a slave but use her like one. She knows of nothing else. That is, until the day a stranger attacks her. When nothing, not even a sickle to the eye can stop him, Nettie stabs him through the heart with a chunk of wood, and he turns into black sand.
And just like that, Nettie can see.
But her newfound sight is a blessing and a curse. Even if she doesn’t understand what’s under her own skin, she can sense what everyone else is hiding — at least physically. The world is full of evil, and now she knows the source of all the sand in the desert. Haunted by the spirits, Nettie has no choice but to set out on a quest that might lead to her true kin… if the monsters along the way don’t kill her first.
Ack, this was my pick for next week! *scrambles to schedule something else* 😉

Sounds very cool – although it’s going to be hard to get Spider-Man villains out of my head. 🙂

This does sound really good, although I’m not crazy about the “overdone feather on the cover” cover. But the release date is so far away! And btw, is that a new WoW banner up there? I love it!

Feathers are quite common recently, aren’t they? And yes, the banner is new. 🙂 I’ve been debating if the “waiting” aspect of it is clear enough or if it over powers the rest of the post. I love it though, so kept it. At least for now.

I’m not sure if that WoW graphic is new or not, but I absolutely love it! Very cool and creepy. Girl dressing as a boy? Auto-buy material right there. I have had really good luck with Orbit lately, so I’m feeling pretty good about this one! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. 🙂

Yep, girl dressing as a boy, and Orbit’s track record definitely put it on the “must get my hands on” list.

Oh, and glad you love the WoW banner. I’ve been debating about it. But love the creepy Alice with the bloody knife behind her back. Waiting.

I do really like the sound of this one and there seems to be a very positive vibe about it because I’m certain I’ve seen it on a couple of other blogs as well – which is good.
I will definitely add this to the list.

I’m really looking forward to reading it and seeing what others think too 🙂

That does sound good! Although I think your enthusiastic description of it has as much to do with it as the actual (also awesome) premise!
