This is a where I look back at what I read (or tried to read) during the past month. I also plan on highlighting my experiences in any book club reads I from the month as well. I will always start with any books I would label as a surprise find/under-read books so if anyone missed my reviews for them, and don’t make it to the end of this post, they’ll be easy to find.
Once again the month is over before I feel like it really started. I read some good books this time! (as usual) I am going to try and start posting more here at Tenacious Reader than I have been. My posts have definitely declined since I started Speculative Herald, but I don’t want this place to die out, so will try to get more things coming here (since starting Speculative Herald, I have been posting every author interview and guest post I line up there, and leaving nothing for TR. That is going to change. I am also going to try and start doing more non-review posts, that is mainly what I cut since starting Speculative Herald. We’ll see how it goes!
I am going to be out of town for the next week with out a computer. I should still have wi-fi and mobile access, but I have to confess most of what I do is at a keyboard. Hopefully I won’t disappear for the week, but if I do, just know I’ll be back 🙂

June Backlist Burndown
For June, I went with The Falconer by Elizabeth May. I was just in a mood for a book like this, and turns out it hit the spot! It’s a book where the protagonist is supposedly a proper young lady at court, but really she hunts and kills fae. I really enjoyed this one! Now I’m just waiting for the sequel to come out on audiobook since the narrator did a fabulous job.
Here’s what other people read and burned off their backlist this month! It makes me happy to see other people joining in with this, so thanks to all of you! 🙂 Anyone else that posted a backlist review this month, feel free to link up! Hope to see another great set of books for May.
What I Read
Spells of Blood and Kin by Clair Humphrey – Surprisingly dark. Enjoyed the story that did not romanticize the supernatural creatures, but rather showed the toll their “curse” takes on them.
Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt – Creepy book that tells a ghost story about a witch that haunts and imprisons an entire town.
Of Sorrow and Such by Angela Slatter – An interesting novella that told a story that felt longer than it was. Definitely also had some themes very relevant for people today.
The Falconer by Elizabeth May – I just loved this book, so much fun! And I love female protagonists that kick ass and are more than they seem. I also love when they break conventions. This one packs in all those traits.
Paper and Fire by Rachel Caine – This was a good book and I plan to continue the series. However I have to say I did not love it nearly as much as the first book.
Infomocracy by Malka Ann Older – An interesting blend of technology, politics and big corporations.
The Wolf Road by Beth Lewis – The longer I’ve been away from this book, the more I like it (and I really enjoyed it while I read it). A post-apocalyptic tale of a girl who finds out she’s been raised by a serial killer.
Looking Forward to July 2016

There are so many books I need to get to in July, I don’t know how I’ll be able to fit them all in. I just started really getting into Hope and Red today though, to my surprise I’m actually enjoying it a lot!

Non-review post should be fun! 🙂 I’m looking forward to seeing how The Waking Fire is. And I say your rating for Fire and Ink on TSH… :/

Yeah. I debated between 3.5 and 4 tbh. Some of novelty seemed to wear off for me. But I’m still interested in the story and will keep reading

I’m really excited for Nevernight too! Still haven’t finished Kristoff’s first series (of course…sigh) but this one looks very cool and creepy, which I’m definitely in the mood for right now!

So many books – how to fit them all in! And where did June go?
I don’t know how you’ve been fitting both blogs in tbh! Very difficult and especially fitting in all the different content.
The Falconer is a good book isn’t it – I’ll be interested to see what you make of the second one – it has a different feel I think.
