- [Review: The Justice of Kings by Richard Swan](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/09/27/review-the-justice-of-kings-by-richard-swan/): Since coming back to reading fantasy after a break, Empire of the Wolf by Richard Swan is the one series that I consistently saw rated and reviewed so highly that it became a must read.
- [Series Review: The Remnant Chronicles By Mary E. Pearson](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/07/30/series-review-the-remnant-chronicles-by-mary-e-pearson/): Overall Rating: Binge Rating: The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E.
- [Sunday Post - July 28, 2024](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/07/28/sunday-post-july-28-2024/): The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted @ Caffeinated Reviewer.
- [Review: The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/07/01/review-the-queen-of-nothing-by-holly-black/): After that cliffhanger ending in The Wicked King, The Queen of Nothing starts with Jude back in the human world.
- [Sunday Post - June 30, 2024](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/06/30/sunday-post-june-30-2024/): The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted @ Caffeinated Reviewer.
- [Review: The Wicked King by Holly Black](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/06/19/review-the-wicked-king-by-holly-black/): You know those enemies to lovers stories, where you get to the stage where you just want to slap the characters into seeing what is so obvious to the reader? You can see they will end up together because they are just , but they are still in denial and determined to hate each other? Yeah, that’s The Wicked King by Holly Black. I just so wanted to shake both Jude and Cardan when they were hating each other.
- [Review: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/05/27/review-the-cruel-prince-by-holly-black/): Holly Black's The Cruel Prince is a magical beginning to The Folk of the Air series. I think this book was exactly what I needed at the moment. I was very quickly pulled in to the lives of Jude, Taryn her twin, and Vivi, their older sister. The story begins with them just being a normal family, with normal lives. Vivi is a bit different, but yet, so normal. Of course, good stories don't come from ordinary events, especially fairy tales. After that brief introduction of what their lives were, the story jumps ten years when the twins are 17. After tragedy upheaves their lives, the sisters find themselves living in the Faerie world, taken in and raised by Madoc, a red cap who thrives on war and bloodshed. It is interesting, because Madoc seems to care for the girls in a way, but at the same time, he can not change who and what he is.
- [Series Review: Codex Alera (6 book series) by Jim Butcher](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/05/20/codex-alera-by-jim-butcher/): I have to say I did really enjoy the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher. It was consistent through out the series.
- [Sunday Post - May 19, 2024](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/05/19/sunday-post-may-19-2024-2/): So, as I have been trying to get back in to the swing of things with blogging, I decided it would be nice to add some sort of regular post to just informally chat about what I am reading, what I've read, informal thoughts on how I am deciding what to read, and maybe even look for recommendations if anyone has any for me. :)
- [Review: First Lord's Fury by Jim Butcher](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/05/09/review-first-lords-fury/): Jim Butcher brings the Codex Alera series to an epic and satisfying end with First Lord's Fury. This final installment brings epic battles, impressive magic, terrifying oversized insect like enemy forces and amazing cunning. I am grateful to those who recommended this series to me because while the series has been enjoyable to read throughout, this book brings a very satisfying conclusion to it all.
- [Review: Princep's Fury by Jim Butcher](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/05/06/review-princeps-fury-by-jim-butcher/): Jim Butcher's Princep's Fury, the 5th book in the Codex Alera series, maintains the same level of enjoyment and excitement as its predecessors.
- [Review: Captain's Fury by Jim Butcher](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/04/24/review-captains-fury-by-jim-butcher/): Captain's Fury by Jim Butcher is the fourth installment of the Codex Alera series.
- [Review: Cursor's Fury by Jim Butcher](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/04/17/review-cursors-fury-by-jim-butcher/): I'm happy to say that I enjoyed Cursor's Fury a bit more than the last. I can't quite put my finger on exactly why that last book seemed slower or easier to put down, but this one certainly picked back up for me. Alera finds itself threatened by not just the threats to usurp the First Lord, but also a foreign threat. There's plenty of conflict, intrigue, political backstabbing and other nefarious on goings to keep this story going. We also get to learn more about the Marat and Canim, two other races that live in areas outside of Alera, to better understand the world they live in.
- [Review: Academ's Fury by Jim Butcher](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/03/25/review-academs-fury-by-jim-butcher/): Academ's Fury picks up 2 years after the conclusion of the first book, so Tavi has been at the Academy for a couple of years. Honestly, I thought maybe this would book would be of the more typical school setting books, but it didn't have quite that feel to it. Yes, Tavi was at school, we got to meet his friends, who are great (and enemies, who suck), and even some of his professors, but I think because along with his POV, we also had chapters for Isana and Amara, the book was never fully focused on the school its self, so the book felt like book 1, but Tavi just happened to be within a school setting. If that makes any sense to anyone other than myself. And I am not saying this is a positive or negative of the book, it was just a little different from my expectation, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
- [Book Review: Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/03/19/review-furies-of-calderon-by-jim-butcher/): Furies of Calderon, Book one of the Codex Alera Series by Jim Butcher, is a good, familiar fantasy that fits the bill for a fun comfort read
- [Reading for me.](https://tenaciousreader.com/2024/03/11/reading-for-me/): Reading and blogging was always something that I WANTED to do, both things that I enjoy. So when I talk about the stress and pressure, it was all completely pressure I created for myself by setting goals that were not always easy for me to meet. So, on my return to this, I am setting no expectations for myself. I have no set goals for posts per week/month/etc. No set goals for when to review new releases, or even how many of my posts may be centered around new releases. I'm just planning to post when I read something and find I have something to say. I miss the blogs, I miss chatting with my book/blog friends, and hope to maybe find a happy balance that I may have missed before. I've been updating the look/feel of the blog, and while I have most of it, will likely still make some tweaks here and there. If you notice anything off, please let me know.
- [Top Ten Tuesday - Titles with Numbers](https://tenaciousreader.com/2019/10/01/top-ten-tuesday-titles-with-numbers/): Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme by That Artsy Reader Girl. This feature gives a weekly Top Ten list. We all love lists, right?
- [Review: Aurora Blazing by Jessie Mihalik](https://tenaciousreader.com/2019/09/30/review-aurora-blazing-by-jessie-mihalik/): Aurora Blazing was another intergalactic adventure with a strong female protagonist, Bianca, who is mastermind hacker with some serious computing skills.
- [Review: The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie](https://tenaciousreader.com/2019/09/09/review-the-raven-tower-by-ann-leckie/): In The Raven Tower, Leckie again took risks and presented a unique reading experience in terms of narrative style. I assumed that with this book, I would again fall into the set of readers that love it. Unfortunately that was not the case. In this book, readers get the point of view from, of all things, a rock. It turns out the rock is more than just a rock, it is actually a god. But since this god is inhabiting the form of a rock, it is limiting.Oh, and did I mention this is told in 2nd person? I find 2nd person highly distracting, and I think there are very few places it works well (at least for me). It also made it very hard to really connect to the characters, and I tend to be a very character focused reader. If I don't connect with them, it is quite challenging (unlikely) that I will end up enjoying the book. I won't say it can't happen, just that it is highly unlikely.
- [Top 5 Tuesday - Dystopian Novels](https://tenaciousreader.com/2019/08/20/top-5-tuesday-dystopian-novels/): A weekly meme hosted by Bionic Book Worm where we list 5 books for the given topic. We all love lists, right?
- [Book Review: Harp of Kings by Juliet Marillier](https://tenaciousreader.com/2019/08/19/review-harp-of-kings-by-juliet-marillier/): After reading the Blackthorn and Grim series by Juliet Marillier, I just knew I had to read more of her work. While I’ve not yet made time for backlist books, this start to a new series, Harp of Kings, was irresistible. It also had a double whammy for expectations. First, I loved her other books so much, that my standards for Marillier are pretty high. Second, I found the premise of this series a must read no matter who the author was.

- [Review: A Brightness Long Ago by Guy Gavriel Kay](https://tenaciousreader.com/2019/04/29/review-a-brightness-long-ago-by-guy-gavriel-kay/): A Brightness Long Ago is a book that is more about the human element than the bigger picture of the world. How people's lives can be defined, shaped, altered by a single moment. It is about those passing moments and memories. There are no guarantees in life, just because you feel something should be doesn't mean it will happen or be that way. This book is full of danger, excitement, betrayal and love. Guy Gavriel Kay continues to prove his skill at storytelling is on a different level from most authors.

- [Book Review: The Deepest Blue by Sarah Beth Durst](https://tenaciousreader.com/2019/04/15/review-the-deepest-blue-by-sarah-beth-durst/): The Deepest Blue is a standalone book that quickly drew me into the world and story. This book read extremely well for being new to the world. I never felt like I was missing backstory or information that might have been relayed in other books. As a reader new to her Renthia works, I found this to be an excellent start. I suppose its possible there are references in here that might be potential spoilers for her existing series, but someone who has read it would have to speak to that. I find I enjoyed this one enough that I'm honestly not too worried about it.

There is to be no preferential treatment, people there should want to be their best selves and strive to do right by the city. If everyone lives by this code, then the city should thrive. Right? Heh ... You'll have to read to find out for sure.

I will forewarn you, they are not for the squeamish or faint of heart. The series is full of horrors, mysteries and magic keys. I found them very quick and enjoyable reads.
