Stacking the Shelves – January 30, 2016

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!

It’s been another couple of great weeks for book additions! I’ve still been trying to restrain myself in my request, but as the new year gets going, so do the irresistible choices for new books!

Received for Review

Dragon Hunters by Marc Turner – This was an unexpected, but welcome arrival from Tor! I enjoyed the first book, and honestly, seemed to get into the story more as I read, so the chance to read the next one is great! Plus, LOOK at that cover!! Many thanks to Tor for sending this my way!

The Fireman by Joe Hill – GAH!! New Joe Hill Book! Must Read, Must Read! Oh, and the concept sounds amazing regardless of author. A bazillion thanks to William Morrow!!

Disappearance at Devil’s Rock by Paul Tremblay – This was an impulse request for me, but it sounds wonderfully creepy and emotional, and honestly, I just couldn’t resist. Thanks again to William Morrow!

Alchemy of Chaos by Marshall Ryan Maresca – I enjoyed the other two books I have read by Maresca (The Thorn of Dentonhill, the first in this series as well as the first book in a companion series, A Murder of Mages, set in the same location/timeframe). I read this one right away, and was not disappointed. My review will go up here on Monday, or you can see it now over at Speculative Herald. Many thanks to DAW for the review copy!

I also received two more novellas from the wonderful and generous people at Tor.com!

The Emperor’s Railroad by Guy Haley – Zombie plague? Superstitions? A questionable church and a city where people go in but don’t come out? Umm… Yeah. I’m in.

The Jewel and Her Lapidary by Fran Wilde – I am really curious to read another work by Fran Wilde and this one sounds quite intriguing. A novella dubbed “epic fantasy, in miniature”? I’m quite curious!

Many thanks to Tor.com for sending these my way!

  1. I’m really looking forward to picking up Alchemy of Chaos. I read the first book in the series around this time last year, right in the middle of a lot of traveling and moving to a new province, so there’s that nostalgic tingle telling me I have to read this new one in February too!
